LONGMONT, Colo.—Police have released the name of a pregnant woman who lost her baby when her car was struck by a suspected drunk driver in Longmont.

Cmdr. Jeff Satur says 27-year-old Heather Surovik is still in the hospital but her father reports she “is making good strides toward recovery.”

Police say Gary Sheats crashed into a vehicle at an intersection Thursday afternoon, leaving Surovik in critical condition, her mother with serious injuries and her 5-year-old son with minor injuries. The fetus was killed.

Prosecutors say Sheats has multiple DUI offenses and had a blood-alcohol level of 0.292 percent after the crash, more than three times the legal limit for driving.
