MAYBELL, Colo.—Crews in northwestern Colorado are fighting several fires sparked by lightning but none have prompted evacuations.
The Cedar Knob fire has burned nearly 1,200 acres on private land near Maybell in Moffat County. The fire was threatening a cabin and some outbuildings but no houses. The Craig Daily Press reports ( ) the fire was 25 percent contained Wednesday.
An 8-acre fire is burning in the Cold Springs area near the Wyoming and Utah borders.
A quarter-acre fire is burning near Rangely in Rio Blanco County. No other details were available.
Several other fires were contained before they could spread.
Rain fell in the region over the weekend, but fire managers say they would need at least 4 inches of rain to escape the danger of lightning igniting new fires.
