LONGMONT — A service for the unborn baby who died following a car accident last week will be held Monday.
A memorial service for Brady Paul Surovik is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Monday at Howe Mortuary Chapel in Longmont. Burial will follow at Longmont Mountain View Cemetery.
The Rev. Don Veazey, pastor of Tri-Town Baptist Church in Frederick who has been speaking on behalf of the Surovik family, will officiate. Veazey said the family does not want media at the service.
Heather Surovik, 27, was injured in a car crash July 5 and lost her baby, who was due to be born within days. Her mother, Terry Koester, 48, was a passenger in the car and was seriously injured. Surovik’s 5-year-old son was uninjured.
Gary Sheats, 52, is accused of driving drunk and causing the wreck. He’s in Boulder County Jail and has been charged with vehicular assault, as well as other charges.
A fund has been set up through Howe Mortuary. Donations can be made to the Brady Fund through the Howe Mortuary website.
Heather Surovik’s friend, Carrie Lewis-Smith, has organized a spaghetti dinner fundraiser on Wednesday evening to benefit the family.
The friends worked together at LifeBridge Christian Church’s day care about 10 years ago and are now neighbors, Lewis-Smith said. Heather works at Sonshine Daycare and Preschool at LifeBridge and belongs to a single moms group at the church, her friend said.
“I know her, and I know that it’s a hard time, and I know we have to do something for her. Her whole life was just turned upside down,” Lewis-Smith said.
Funds raised from the dinner will go to Heather’s medical bills, funeral arrangements and other expenses.
Surovik has been released from Longmont United Hospital, according to a nursing supervisor. Lewis-Smith said she visited Surovik at home Thursday night.
She said her friend is doing well and “very emotional, but it’s to be expected.”
