The search for a big lizard on the loose near Woodland Park continued Tuesday with no luck, a spokeswoman for the Teller County Sheriff’s Department said.
The Nile monitor lizard, known as Dino, is black, 6 feet long, about 25 pounds and capable of killing cats and small dogs. Children also could be at risk of an attack, according to the sheriff’s department.
The pet reptile escaped its cord in its owner’s yard in the Westwood Lakes area Monday, and residents of the neighborhood, as well as the Westwood Lakes and Rosewood Hills subdivisions, were warned by an emergency message about the lizard.
“We have a 6-foot reptile out and about,” Teller County Sheriff Mike Ensinger told The Associated Press. “If it gets hungry enough, we don’t know what it will do.”
Anyone who sees the lizard can call authorities at 719-687-9652.
