DENVER—Police are still investigating a Denver police officer over her handling of a DUI traffic stop of former state legislator Laura Bradford.

According to KCNC-TV ( ), veteran police Sgt. Benita Packard may have erred after officers smelled alcohol when they stopped Bradford, but believed they could not detain her because of a state law protecting lawmakers while they are in session.

A legislative ethics committee dismissed accusations Bradford used her position to influence Denver police during the traffic stop last January.

Bradford has maintained that she told police to treat her like a regular citizen.
