After a two year hiatus, tells Reverb that are back in the business of making music. Widowers are nearly done recording their new album and Talk Talk caught up with lead singer Marchant to get the deets and why there will be no Widowers UMS show this week. On the upside, TT has two new tracks from Widowers for y’all to enjoy. Photo via Julio Enriquez.

How did the new album come to be since you guys weren’t gigging together anymore?

Widowers stopped playing live over two years ago, despite never really announcing a breakup. The band members and I are really good friends, but we had different projects to tend to. I was in Houses, Cory Brown is half of and Bryan Marcus is in , to name a few. The timing worked out really well because we were in between things. When I initially started writing a Widowers album a couple of years ago, it ended up being too folky, so I decided to make it a solo effort. While writing, I wanted my efforts to reflect a full length instead of a bunch of EPs.

Ultimately, we would like Widowers to make that move towards electronic and psychedelic. I wrote most of the album on a piano, despite it not being my best instrument. By doing so, the piano wasn’t going to allow me to rest on my laurels and follow up on familiar chord changes. The new album has a collective feel to the process in the same approach as Broken Social Scene. Mark Weaver (bass player) is helping arrange the new material and Josh Trinidad plays trumpet.

When can we expect the new album?

Seventy-five percent of the album is done and we’re looking at a late fall release. We’re self-releasing the album, but we hope it gets picked up.

What’s the deal with UMS?

Unfortunately I won’t be doing any performances at UMS this year. I was involved in a car accident six weeks ago and my ribs are still healing. We’ve had multiple opportunities to play great shows, but have had to decline as a result.

Time and Akira the Don do their best Walter White impression

Unless you’ve been under a rock or have zero access to the Internet or cable television, AMC’s “Breaking Bad” has been churning out some of the best Television since HBO’s “The Wire.” Whip-smart rhyme dropper  has teamed up with Akira the Don to give one of my favorite series a major head nod with their track “Full Metal Alchemist (i Walter White).”

Kill Paradise offers “Glitch” for free

Melodic electro-rockers  have great news for fans. What rhymes with “tree” that everybody can use more of in life? The latest album from the duo, “Glitch,” is available for free download over .

You can UMS even without fully UMS’ing

UMS is a four day marathon, and if you can endure all four days and still stand, you’re probably younger than me. We want to reward our readers with a free keg of Breckenridge beer. Think of it as a pit stop in a long race where you get all four tires changed. But get there early, because we’re looking to float the keg pretty fast. The Reverb Recovery Rooftop takes place over at the Irish Rover starting at noon on Saturday, July 21 with your party host, .
