DENVER—Denver Mayor Michael Hancock is promising a review following reports that city employees failed to pay some photo-speed-van and red-light-camera fines after they were caught while driving city cars.
A records review by KUSA-TV ( ) shows more than 600 violation notices have not been paid since 2009. That includes 458 for the Denver Police Department, which doesn’t require officers to pay tickets. Instead the department opens a disciplinary case with internal affairs when citations are issued.
One city vehicle captured breaking the red-light rules at an intersection was a parking-attendant’s vehicle.
Most city agencies have a policy that requires employees to pay for red-light and photo-speed citations issued while they are driving a city vehicle.
