A prisoner being taken from the Boulder County Jail to Nebraska slipped from his handcuffs and assaulted a guard, escaping briefly before being recaptured, police said.

The incident happened about 9:45 a.m. Wednesday at a truck stop near Colorado Highway 52 and I-25, according to a Frederick Police Department media release.

Several people tried to aid the private security guard, but the prisoner was able to get away. A Dacono police officer responding to the escape captured the prisoner.

The guard suffered injuries that are not serious, police said.He was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in Lafayette.
