BASALT, Colo.—About 35 firefighters quickly extinguished a small wildfire that threatened a neighborhood in Basalt north of Aspen.

The Denver Post reports ( ) the fire burned in pinion and juniper trees on steep terrain.

Basalt & Rural Fire Protection District spokeswoman Matt Avidan says witnesses say the fire was ignited at a shooting range on federal wildlife lands near Lake Christine.

Pitkin County sent email and text alerts to residents warning them to evacuate immediately. Avidan says residents received pre-evacuation notices.
