FORT CARSON, Colo.—A Korean War-era tank has been put on display outside the headquarters of the 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division at Fort Carson.
The Army says the M-47 Patton series tank was hauled into position on Aug. 1. It had been on display at Kit Carson Park at Fort Carson’s main gate.
Second Lt. Blake Ritchey, an engineer officer with the 1st Brigade, says brigade commanders wanted the tank placed outside their headquarters to remind the soldiers of Army history and to instill unit pride.
Steve Ruhnke, curator of the Fort Carson Museum, says soldiers who were in the 1st Brigade during the 1950s probably used Patton-series tanks in their Cold War mission in Germany.
