Alina Raffa escaped that and sent 15 to hospitals on Monday night by jumping out her fourth-story window. It was her only way out.
“My first thought was to go to my front door, seeing, hopefully, I could get out from the opposite side,” Raffa said. “I opened the door and was already engulfed, and my door handle was already hot. I was thinking ‘I’m going to have to jump.'”
The jump broke both of the 20-year-old’s feet and injured her back. She is about to undergo a number of surgeries because of what she had to do to survive.
“If I stay here, I’m going to die. If I jump, I’m probably going to hurt myself. Odds are I’ll live,” she said. “That made it even harder: jumping, knowing there is no soft place to jump. No matter what I’m going get hurt, but I’m going to make it out alive.”
