A Denver man who neglected and mistreated two of his pet dogs is wanted by authorities after he failed to appear at a sentencing hearing.
Corey Haveman, 33, was to be sentenced Monday in court but he was a no-show, according to a Denver District Attorney’s Office media release.
On Dec. 12, 2010, two of Haveman’s Irish setters, Naoi and O’Malley, were removed from his LoDo home.
Naoi later died of malnutrition and O’Malley, who weighed 30 pounds when he was rescued, eventually recovered.
Haveman pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor, cruelty to animals — neglect and mistreatment. He was to be sentenced to 60 days in jail as part of the guilty plea, but he failed to appear at sentencing.
He remains at large Tuesday, the DA’s office said.
