A 77-year-old man died Tuesday when he was trapped beneath a tractor on his mountain property.

The Larimer County Sheriff’s Office received a call about the pinned man about 10:40 a.m., said John Schulz, a sheriff’s office spokesman.

The incident happened in the 700 block of Snow Top Drive in the Drake area west of Fort Collins.

The victim, who was not identified, and his wife were trying to jump-start a tractor, which was on a dirt road with a slight slope, when the machine began to roll, Schulz said.

“He got trapped underneath it — he was in a fetal position,” Schulz said.

Rescue personnel with the Big Thompson Canyon Volunteer Fire Department extricated the man and performed CPR. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man was trying to get the tractor running so he could mow the meadow on his property.
