GREELEY, Colo.—Weld County commissioners are opposing a Colorado ballot proposal seeking to legalize recreational marijuana use and possession by people over 21.
Commissioners on Wednesday passed a resolution opposing Amendment 64, which will be on the ballot in November.
They say they oppose the proposal, partly because marijuana is illegal under federal law. They say they also are concerned about marijuana’s effects on children and that the measure could curtail employers’ rights for taking action against employees who use marijuana.
But Mason Tvert of the Campaign to Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol tells the Greeley Tribune ( ) employers won’t lose their rights. He says language in the initiative explicitly states employers have the ability to maintain their codes of conduct.
