Trucking industry experts estimate that there is a shortage of 80,000 truck drivers right now. That number may increase to a 250,000 driver shortage as the economy recovers.
To meet the high demand, trucking companies are offering new employees higher pay and benefits, better routes and more home time. Drivers rarely face layoffs, even when the economy slows. “Look online or in the help wanted section of the newspaper and you’ll see that professional truck drivers are in need everywhere,” says Bonnie Babcock, Director of SAGE Truck Driving School in Henderson.
