Colorado State’s volleyball team has one of its biggest home matches ever Saturday night, when the Rams play host to second-ranked UCLA. It will be the first time since 1993 that the defending national champion (in any sport) plays at Moby Arena. And for CSU, a victory would set the program’s mark for the highest-ranked team to lose in Fort Collins.
Fans are encouraged to wear a white shirt as part of “White Out” night. Last year’s White Out match set a Mountain West record when 6,750 fans watched the Rams rally to beat No. 5 Nebraska. That crowd ranked fourth nationally last season for single-match attendance.
CSU last played UCLA in 2000, and the Rams knocked off the then top-ranked Bruins at a match in Florida. Players from the 2000 CSU team will attend Saturday’s game.
Rams senior middle blocker Megan Plourde is the reigning national player of the week. She ranks third nationally with an average of 1.7 blocks per set.
UCLA is 2-1 against top-25 opponents this season, losing at then fourth-ranked Nebraska but winning at No. 8 Hawaii and at home against No. 18 Pepperdine.
