Formal charges were filed Friday against a man accused of a series of late-summer groping attacks in the Denver area.
Juan Hernandez-Vargas, 26, is charged with unlawful sexual contact with force, three counts of unlawful sexual contact and one count of attempted sexual assault on a child, according to the Denver District Attorney’s office.
Hernandez-Vargas is being held at the Denver Detention Center on $20,000 bond. He is slated to formally be advised of the charges in court Tuesday at 9:30 a.m.
The suspected groper made news at the end of August and early September after reports streamed in accusing a large and balding man of harassing women across the city.
Apparently linked reports from High Street at East Fourth and East Fifth avenues were believed to be the first assaults.
Later, a report of an underage assault on East Wesley Avenue put nearby residents on even more heightened alert.
The area is just south of the University of Denver.
Police conducted an undercover surveillance operation earlier this month and finally were able to take the man into custody Tuesday.
