San Diego-based Bridgepoint Education announced the reduction of 450 jobs — 90 of them in its Denver operations — for its Ashford University, which offers online degrees, as well as traditional on-campus courses at its Iowa location.
The job cuts all are within the company’s admissions sector and were part of a larger reorganization in which 400 additional positions were affected.
In that move, 200 individuals at Ashford University in Iowa were reassigned to a new department of student inquiry after a skill assessment of the workforce.
Another 200 people were reassigned to student services.
The company has reported a Colorado workforce of about 900, though precise figures were not available Tuesday.
Bridgepoint was founded in 1999 and purchased the the Franciscan University of the Prairies in 2005, changing its name to Ashford University. It purchased the Colorado School of Professional Psychology in 2007 and changed its name to University of the Rockies.
The bulk of its enrollment is online.
