LONGMONT, Colo.—A mother has been charged with neglect after her 22-month-old child left the house and was found wandering in traffic.

Longmont police commander Jeffrey M. Satur says the 21-year-old mother inside the house fell asleep Monday thinking her kids were down for a nap.

The toddler was found wandering in the middle of rush hour traffic and her mother was nowhere to be found.

According to KUSA-TV ( ), the child was rescued after a driver jumped out of her car and shielded the child from oncoming traffic. Authorities withheld other details because it involves a child neglect case.
