ASPEN, Colo.—Aspen’s special events organizers are considering making changes to the Aspen Backcounty Marathon next year over concerns participants may run into bears.

The marathon includes a stretch through prime black bear habitat. The race in August also coincides with the bears’ prime feeding season before winter hibernation.

According to the Aspen Daily News ( ), organizers are considering changing the race date or the route.
