DURANGO, Colo.—A nonprofit organization associated with the Southern Ute Indian tribe has received $200,000 to offer daily bus service between Durango and Grand Junction.
The Durango Herald reports () Road Runner Transit plans to start service in May on a route Greyhound dropped last year because it wasn’t profitable.
The Colorado Department of Transportation awarded $200,000 to Southern Ute Community Action Programs Inc., which operates Road Runner, to help launch the service. CDOT awarded $60,000 to pay for used buses. The nonprofit organization will have to apply for funds each year to continue operating.
The bus route will go through Cortez, Dolores, Telluride, Ridgeway, Montrose and Delta. Clayton Richter of Southern Ute Community Action Programs Inc. estimates one-way tickets will cost about $45.
