Linda Embree’s friend Terie Miyamoto shared her family recipe, which has become an Embree favorite.
Ingredients
3 cups Japanese rice, such as Kokuho Rose, cooked according to package directions
½ pound Jimmy Dean regular pork sausage
½ pound Jimmy Dean hot pork sausage
1 medium onion, diced small
4 large carrots, shredded
5 stalks celery, diced small
Salt
Black pepper
Garlic powder
Directions
Cook rice, keep warm.
In a large skillet or roasting pan, fry the sausage and break into large chunks (add a little oil if needed, and don’t drain any of the fat). Add the remaining ingredients and simmer on low until the vegetables are soft.
Mix sausage-vegetable mixture with the hot rice. Add salt, black pepper, and garlic powder to taste. Use a large meat fork to mix the ingredients together (so the rice doesn’t get smashed).
