FORT COLLINS, Colo.—A student club at a Fort Collins high school has recited the Pledge of Allegiance in French and Spanish over the school’s public-address system and may use other languages in the future.

Rocky Mountain High School principal Tom Lopez told the Fort Collins Coloradoan ( ) on Wednesday that three parents complained, but he defended the practice as appropriate and called it a learning experience.

Lopez says the purpose of the student-initiated club is to break down barriers between cultures.

He says club members might recite the pledge in Korean, Arabic and Chinese in the future.

Lopez says a law that allows students to choose whether or not to recite the pledge would apply to any language used. He says he is surprised by the complaints.
