Monument police say they talked an armed man who holed up on a department store loading dock into dropping his weapons late Sunday.
Officers were called to a shopping center on the 16000 block of Jackson Creek Parkway at 11:40 p.m. on reports that a man armed with a military-style rifle was breaking into cars.
They quickly spotted the man, later identified as 29-year-old Gregory Brunton of Gleneagle, and ordered for him to drop the rifle. Instead the man sprinted away.
Police tracked Brunton to the loading dock of a nearby Kohl’s store, where the armed man took refuge behind a trailer.
Crisis negotiators used a telephone to talk with the Brunton, convincing him to surrender after an hour of discussion.
