Spotlight on O.J. Mayo: Mayo has blossomed with his new team, leading the Mavericks in scoring. But en- tering Thursday, he had made only three field goals in each of the past three games. Still, the Nuggets know Mayo is a gifted offensive player at shooting guard. Andre Iguodala likely will spend a lot of time covering the former Grizzlies backup.

Mavericks: Dallas has won its past three games against Denver. … Dirk Nowitzki recently returned from a knee injury. He told reporters Thursday that his knee is 100 percent, “but my legs were a little heavy. There was just a little pep missing (in my first game back).” … Dahntay Jones spent the 2008-09 season with the Nuggets, averaging 5.4 points and providing tough defense for the team that beat Dallas to advance to the Western Conference finals. … The Mavericks entered Thursday allowing an average of 102.5 points, the third- worst defense in the NBA.
Nuggets: Ty Lawson is coming off a game in which he had 14 assists and nary a turnover, the most assists he’s ever had without committing a turnover. … Denver assigned Quincy Miller to the D-League. It will be the rookie’s second stint with the Iowa Energy. He averaged 14 points and 10.7 rebounds in three games with Iowa earlier this season. … Denver is facing a back-to-back road set against Dallas and Memphis. “These next two games are really important for us. We need to focus in,” Andre Iguodala said.
