The marriage of music and comedy is often an uneasy one, as countless bands and stand-ups have found over the years. But (see David Cross and his early 2000s Sub Pop tour, Bonnaroo’s comedy tent, South by Southwest, etc.) it provides a unique space in which the two art forms complement each other.
Thatap the idea, anyway, behind the Denver-based new cabaret night, “The Greater Than Social Club,” which will premiere at on Wednesday, Feb. 6.
Presented by Illegal Pete’s –- the Denver-based backers of the Greater Than Collective — the show doubles as a coming-out party for Greater Than’s latest signed band, , and features comedy from rising stand-up and Denver favorite Sean Patton (Comedy Central, “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon,” etc.).
The event will be hosted by , a local stand-up who created the monthly Narrators show and acts as one-third of comedy troupe (with , another Greater Than artist, and ).
As noted, the $10 shows are shooting for a “cabaret-style” feel, which should fit the subterranean vibe at Lannie’s well, and promise a “mostly-local” lineup from month to month. Tickets are available now at .
