The building housing El Diablo and Sketch restaurants was ordered closed Friday by Denver officials because of safety concerns.

Early Friday morning, building inspectors posted a sign at 101 Broadway that states, “DANGER KEEP OUT. This Structure is Unsafe. DO NOT ENTER.”

Restaurant owner Jesse Morreale and city officials have been in a .

A similar closure notice was issued five months ago. After that, the Denver Board of Appeals allowed the restaurants to reopen and gave Morreale an extension of time to complete repairs.

“As of this date, none of the required repairs have been made to the building,” said Andrea Burns, a spokeswoman for Denver Community Planning and Development.

The city said Morreale has failed to submit plans to resolve “issues of lateral load resistance,” roof repairs and unpermitted alterations.

The building also is the subject of a foreclosure. The foreclosure is on hold pending resolution of a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing by Morreale Hotels. Morreale did not return calls for comment.
