STERLING, Colo.—Attorneys for a 33-year-old inmate accused of killing his cellmate at the Sterling Correctional Facility will have two more months to interview witnesses before their client is arraigned.

The Sterling Journal-Advocate reports ( ) public defender Tom Ward asked a judge for the extra time Thursday, saying he still had to speak with 22 witnesses in the case of inmate James Bergman.

Bergman faces charges of murder and assault stemming from the Dec. 1, 2011, death of Lyle Brent White, a convicted child killer.

Bergman was serving time for burglary, assault and kidnapping out of Douglas County, as well as for charges from Arapahoe County.
