A state prison inmate was killed Monday morning while at work at a garage in Cañon City that maintains and repairs Colorado Department of Corrections vehicles.
His name was not released, pending notification of his family, according to a statement from the department.
The inmate was working on a hydraulic dump truck at about 7:30 a.m. at the East Cañon Complex DOC Fleet Service Station when he was killed.
The incident is under investigation. The Department of Corrections said the garage has five staff members and 10 to 15 trained inmates who work on vehicles.
