Apr. 14: LifeTime Westminster Indoor Triathlon, Westminster. If you just want to get some experience, this event is based on time rather than distance, which means you get points for going farther in a specified time instead of faster in a fixed distance. The pool swim is 10 minutes, spin bike is 10 and treadmill run is 20. Transition times are built in.
May 11: Ordinary Mortals Triathlon, Pueblo. Billed as an event for everyone, from the “never-ever” beginner to USAT-ranked athletes, the OMT is a sprint in reverse format (3.1-mile run, 12.5-mile bike, 300-yard swim) in a pool. ordinary- mortals.org
May 25: Pelican Fest Triathlon, Windsor. This sprint (.5-mile swim, 10-mile bike, 3.1-mile run) features an open-water swim in Windsor Lake and is being co-directed by Wendy Mader, the top amateur finisher at the 2008 Hawaii Ironman.
June 23: Tri Boulder, Boulder. There’s a sprint (750-meter swim — less than half a mile, 17.3-mile bike, 3.1-mile run) and Olympic (1,500-meter swim — almost a mile, 23.6-mile bike, 6.2-mile run) option at the event, with the swim in Boulder Reservoir.
