Good value: Denver Day of Rock
When and where: May 25 at five stages scattered throughout downtown Denver
How much: Free
The deal: The metro area has plenty of low-cost, quality live music opportunities. From free community festivals to smaller rock clubs, fans can see and hear good-quality music for $6 (or less) with some planning.
Few outings can compete with the annual Denver Day of Rock on Memorial Day Weekend. The event celebrates the local music community with artists who matter, and it also brings in national acts that have unique appeal to local audiences.
This year’s headliner is Vintage Trouble, a back-to-basics blues-rock outfit last seen in Denver opening for the Who at the Pepsi Center in February.
Also playing this year: Fishbone, Roger Clyne & the Peacemakers, Peter Cincotti, What Made Milwaukee Famous, Chubby Carrier and the Bayou Swamp Band, Wendy Woo Band, Take to the Oars, Something Underground, first lady of Denver Mary Louise Lee, the Railbenders and others. Ricardo Baca, Denver Post Pop Music Critic
