The family of Christopher Bryant Jr. expressed shock at learning he had been shot outside an Aurora sports bar early Saturday.

Described as respectful, kind and loving by Lisa Bryant, his stepmother, Christopher, 22, .

Another man, identified by Lisa Bryant as Christopher’s friend, was left with life-threatening injuries.

“He was not a gang member. He was not a rough kid out there asking for and getting in trouble,” Bryant said. “That wasn’t him.”

Police responded to Primo’s Sports Bar at 1433 Chester St. at 1:40 a.m. Saturday after receiving a call that two men were down in the parking lot.

Police fought through an unruly crowd of about 100 to reach Christopher Bryant and the other victim, said Aurora police spokeswoman Cassidee Carlson.

Lisa Bryant said that Christopher’s family members are unaware of what sparked the gunshots, saying they only know that Christopher was outside smoking a cigarette when he was shot.

“All we have right now is what we hear and see on Facebook,” Lisa Bryant said. “That’s the worst thing in the world.”

“How do you plan a funeral when you still don’t have closure?” she said.

Christopher Bryant leaves behind a 2-year-old daughter.

A prayer vigil is scheduled for Monday at 6 p.m. at the bar, 1433 Chester St.
