DENVER—A man facing allegations he threatened a state legislator during the heated debate over gun control in Colorado is due in court.

David Cassidy is accused of leaving Sen. Andy Kerr a threatening voicemail March 4, the day Senate committees passed a series of bills tightening restrictions on guns.

Cassidy faces a felony charge of attempting to influence a public official and a misdemeanor harassment charge when he appears in court on Monday.

Cassidy says the message wasn’t meant to be threatening.
