GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—Officials in Fruita are opposing possible changes by the federal Bureau of Land Management on the North Fruita Desert.

The city says the agency’s sweeping management plan could hurt recreation on portions of the more than 1.2 million acres of BLM land.

According to the Grand Junction Daily Sentinel ( ), officials say that could hinder mountain bikers, horseback riders and off-highway vehicle travels.

The city also disagrees with a decision to allow mineral extraction in the special resource management area included in the draft management plan.
