Sitcoms and police procedurals may run according to season, with fall pilots, summer reruns and kill-off-our-favorite-character sweeps weeks. But when it comes to foodie TV, new series pop up all the time. Here are a couple promising possibilities to add to your DVR lineup:
“Pizza Cuz”: Sal Basille and Francis Garcia have a passion for pizza — so much so that the owners of New York City’s Artichoke Pizza are hosting a pie-centric series on the Cooking Channel. “Pizza Cuz,” which aims to “serve up slices with a side of adventure,” will run for six weeks and include pizzaiolos across the country. First up May 6 is an episode on top pizza masters, with a stop in Oakland, Calif. for slices of wild nettle and sausage. The Cooking Channel hasn’t specified, but we’re betting that’s Charlie Hallowell’s work at Pizzaiolo and Boot & Shoe Service. The show airs Mondays at 6 p.m.
“Burger Land”: Not to be outdone, the Travel Channel is going all edible single topic, too. Its new “Burger Land” series launched last week with a look at “the art of burger creation” from coast to coast. Hosted by George Motz, author of the best-selling “Hamburger America,” the series includes everything from a Los Angeles combo — a burger with a hot dog on top — to Memphis’ deep-fried double cheeseburger. We hope the film crew has a cardiologist on call. The show airs Mondays at 9 p.m.
