DENVER—A man suspected of pouring green paint on downtown Denver’s iconic blue bear was arrested this week, but the district attorney is not pressing charges.
The 40-foot-tall blue bear, which peers into the Colorado Convention Center, was found covered in green paint March 31. The damage to the piece, titled “I See What You Mean,” is estimated to have cost $11,000.
A police spokesman said Wednesday that investigators tracked where the paint had been purchased and who had bought it, leading them to arrest a 21-year-old man. Police say that while the court was willing to issue an arrest warrant, the district attorney said more evidence is needed for a conviction.
The man has been released from jail, and police are continuing the investigation.
