COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—Police have set up barricades to prevent spectators from bothering a family of great horned owls nesting in a tree in Colorado Springs.
The Gazette reports ( ) curious onlookers have climbed the tree and have stood in the middle of the street to get a better look at the baby owls near the Mountain Shadows neighborhood.
Colorado Parks and Wildlife spokesman Michael Seraphin cautions viewers to keep their distance because the parent owls can be protective of the nest and may dive-bomb pedestrians.
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service says great horned owls aren’t listed as endangered.
The Waldo Canyon Fire last summer destroyed more than 340 homes, most of which were in the Mountain Shadows neighborhood.
