DURANGO, Colo.—A juvenile charged with starting a wildfire that prompted evacuations near Mancos in southwest Colorado last year has been sentenced.
The U.S. attorney’s office said Thursday that the suspect was adjudicated as a juvenile delinquent for two acts of juvenile delinquency, for willfully lighting timber on fire on public lands and destroying government property in excess of $1,000. The court has yet to determine restitution.
Federal prosecutors released no other information but said the juvenile has apologized.
The Weber Fire started in late June and burned more than 15 square miles. It cost an estimated $3.2 million to fight.
