Willis McGahee, whose future as the Broncos’ starting running back would seem to be in peril after the team drafted Montee Ball in the second round, was the only non-injured veteran who wasn’t present Monday for the first day of OTAs.

McGahee also had spotty attendance during the Phase I and II offseason conditioning program. All offseason training activities (OTAs) are voluntary until the mandatory minicamp June 11-13.

“He’s following the same routine he’s had his whole career,” said Chafie Fields, McGahee’s agent. “He’ll be there. He’s ready to compete. No messages.”

McGahee signed a four-year contract with the Broncos following the 2011 lockout. He rushed for 1,199 yards in his first season and was on pace for another 1,000-yard season in 2012 when he suffered a slightly torn MCL and compression fracture in his right tibia.
