BOULDER — Firefighters doused a seemingly abandoned trailer that burst into flames Monday morning at the Mapleton Mobile Home Park, sending a plume of smoke into the air that could be seen from the Bolder Boulder starting line as runners began assembling for the race.

Boulder police and fire spokeswoman Kim Kobel said the fire in the 2600 block of Mapleton Avenue was called in shortly after 5 a.m. When firefighters arrived, she said, they found a mobile home fully engulfed with “very high” flames.

Because of fears the fire would spread to other trailers, a second-alarm was called, with additional fire crews dispatched to the scene.

“We were concerned that there was another nearby trailer that was at risk,” Kobel said. “We wanted to stop the fire from spreading, and we were able to do that.”
