DURANGO, Colo.—Durango is hoping to compete with Boulder and other bicycle-friendly communities for kudos by improving its bicycle lanes.

The League of American Bicyclists says cities such as Boulder and Portland, Ore., have an advantage because they designated 75 to 90 percent of their main roads with bike lanes.

Durango officials tell the Durango Herald ( ) three planned projects should put them in the running for a higher rating from the league.
