DENVER—The Colorado Department of Corrections has purchased new equipment for community parole officers to improve their safety.
KMGH-TV in Denver ( ) obtained an email that Colorado Division of Parole warden Steve Hager sent Monday saying the department has purchased 76 additional stun guns, which should allow all 112 certified operators to receive a personal stun gun.
He says the department also ordered 160 up-to-date holsters, plus 25 extra radios for officers.
As for bulletproof vests, Hager says the department will survey officers first to see what they want and need, since not all have been wearing department-issued vests. Corrections officials say some officers have been buying their own.
