GRAND LAKE, Colo.—Wildlife officials say that due to safety concerns, they have euthanized a moose cow and her calf after the cow charged a 60-year-old woman walking her dog near Grand Lake.
Colorado Parks and Wildlife officials say the woman was taken to a hospital with undisclosed injuries after the encounter Tuesday.
A witness says the woman and dog were as close as 10 feet to the animals before the moose knocked her down.
Wildlife officials say people should keep their distance from wild animals and keep dogs leashed, since approaching wildlife puts both humans and the animals at risk.
The reminder comes as people try to catch glimpses of a bull moose that KUSA-TV in Denver reports () has been spotted trying to mate with a new moose statue in town.
