FORT CARSON, Colo.—Fellow soldiers are remembering a Fort Carson staff sergeant who was killed in Afghanistan as someone who brought up the spirits of those around him.
Staff Sgt. Joe Nunez-Rodriguez, of Pasadena, Texas, died May 30 after his vehicle was hit by a homemade bomb.
The 29-year-old was assigned to the 68th Combat Support Sustainment Battalion, 43rd Sustainment Brigade, 4th Infantry Division at Fort Carson in Colorado.
The Gazette reports that at a memorial service for him Thursday at Fort Carson, 1st Lt. Natalie Lopez-Barnard said he had a heart as big as the state of Texas ( ).
Nunez-Rodriguez deployed four times to Iraq and twice to Afghanistan.
