ELBERT, Colo.—The Colorado wildfire that has destroyed dozens of homes northeast of Colorado Springs has prompted evacuations in neighboring Elbert County.
Sheriff’s officials evacuated a southwest part of Elbert County, including two camps, on Wednesday due to the Black Forest Fire in El Paso County.
The JCC Ranch Camp in Elbert says about 250 campers and staff left.
The Boy Scouts of America, Denver Area Council says nearly 1,000 youth and adult leaders, including 200 scouts from other states, left a Boy Scout ranch in Elbert.
Sheriff’s officials say about 900 of the evacuees were at the Elbert County fairgrounds Wednesday afternoon.
