Getting your player ready...

Outdoor grilling, golf and good old American pickups are three favorites for large numbers of dads.

Would your dad get a kick from a new truck for Father’s Day? Of course he would.

Pickups, including the 2014 Chevy Silverado, ’13 Ram 3500 Laramie Longhorn and the ’99 Ford F-150 Lightning, were prominent among AutoGuide.com staff members’ choices of “cars they’d like to buy their dads for Father’s Day.”

A Father’s Day feature by TrueCar Inc., said that three of the six vehicles with the highest percentage of purchasers who are fathers are full-sized pickup trucks – the Ford F-150, Dodge Ram and Chevrolet Silverado.

“Whether they’re heading to the soccer field, a playground or a campground, dads need to have the room to get the family and their gear where they’re going,” said Jesse Toprak, senior analyst for TrueCar, an automotive pricing information and analysis company.

The top 10, including five Honda models, are Ford F-150, Honda Odyssey minivan, Ram 1500, Honda Accord sedan, Toyota Camry, Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Honda Pilot, Honda Civic sedan, Jeep Wrangler and Honda CR-V.

It is unusual that five Hondas are on that list.

In fact, in a separate release, J.D. Power and Associates indicated that four of the top five models purchased by U.S. women are also on the TrueCar list of the highest percentage of purchasers who are fathers – the Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, Honda Civic and Ford F-series.

Don’t ask me to figure that out, especially on Father’s Day.
