DENVER—An officer with the Colorado Parks and Wildlife Division died after a horse-riding accident near Craig.
Bill de Vergie, the area wildlife manager for the division’s Meeker office, tells The Denver Post ( ) 42-year-old Jon Wangnild was riding a horse he was considering buying Thursday when the animal fell on top of him.
Wangnild was taken to a Craig hospital and was later flown to Denver Health Medical Center, where he died.
De Vergie says Wangnild, who was off-duty at the time of the accident, was an experienced rider and worked in the Meeker office for 11 years.
