DENVER—Colorado Republican House Leader Mark Waller will step down from his leadership position as he runs fort state attorney general.

The Colorado Springs lawmaker told The Associated Press Tuesday he will resign his leadership post on July 11, when Republicans select their next House leader. Loveland Rep. Brian DelGrosso is widely expected to be their choice.

Waller announced his candidacy for attorney general Monday. He joins a field that includes former Adams County District Attorney Don Quick, a Democrat, and Republican Cynthia Coffman, the chief deputy of current Attorney General John Suthers.

Suthers is term-limited. The election for his position is November 2014.
