Getting your player ready...

As much as sporting-dog owners hate the thought of administering first aid to their canine companions, the reality is that anything can happen in the field. But with the help of the vets at Deer Creek Animal Hospital, hunting-dog owners can head into the season armed with some knowledge. Doctors Dan Brod and Todd Rezac are hosting their third annual Sporting Dog First Aid Clinic at the hospital Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., including hands-on work stations covering eye treatment, bandaging and splinting, restraining injured dogs, stapling and wound care. They’re also offering special pricing on veterinary services (blood tests $75, heartworm tests $35, micro-chipping $30), including a free dental exam. Cost is $40, and space is limited to the first 40 registrants. Lunch provided by the Iams Company. Definitely bring your dog.
