Calling it the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in Denver is just so … uninventive.
In the spirit of innovation, U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet has launched a crowdsourcing campaign to find a name for the new office with some Colorado personality.
“Tell us who your favorite Colorado innovators are and why we should name the new patent office after them,” Bennet said in a statement issued Wednesday.
Suggestions are being solicited through Aug. 9 at the website
Through Wednesday afternoon, an early favorite was renowned electrical inventor Nikola Tesla, who in 1899 . One of them blew out a municipal generator and caused a citywide blackout.
Others receiving nominations were and , co-founder of Hewlett-Packard.
Bennet said he will submit the top ideas to the U.S. Department of Commerce for consideration.
